About

So this is where I’m supposed to brag about myself, yea?

I’m supposed to list all my accomplishments and talk about how awesome I am, how I do awesome things all the time, travel to awesome places, and tell you all the reasons why my life is awesomeeee. I’m also probably supposed to write a little something about how I’ve been writing and journaling for years, in order to prove that I’m not just jumping on the blogger bandwagon like most humans are these days. Oh, and as a traveler, I have to say something about how I’ve had the travel bug for years and list all the places I’ve lived and tell you all about how cultured I am… right?

The truth is: I’m not awesome and my life isn’t awesome.

I followed the “path to success” (get good grades → go to college → start a career) until I was 24 years old and then decided to create my own path. In January 2019 I quit my job as a publicist in NYC, sold all my things, and hopped on a one-way flight to Barcelona to see what else was out there.

Turns out, there is a lot out there… who knew?!

Wanting to help people and make an impact on people’s lives, I got TEFL certified and began teaching English as a foreign language — something that I absolutely love doing. But before I decided to take the leap I researched the heck out of how to live and work overseas. I was so desperate to find other people who were successfully teaching and living abroad, just to assure myself that I was making the right choice. I wanted to know everything about them and how they got to where they were.

So I decided to create this blog as a resource for 24-year-old Casey. A girl who dreamt of living in Europe and traveling to different countries every weekend, but never thought it was possible. A girl who was scared to take the leap because of what her family and friends would think. A girl who had no idea how to teach English as a foreign language or what that even entailed. A girl who needed a knowledgeable blog, but not from any blogger — from a friend who was once in her shoes and could help to answer all her questions. So if 24-year-old Casey sounds like you… read on… and let’s be friends 🙂

After living and teaching in Barcelona for two years, 24-year-old Casey is now 26 and living and teaching in Lisbon. When I decided to take the leap two years ago I never imagined I would be where I am today ( I honestly didn’t even know where Portugal was, I thought it was part of Spain… lol ), but here I am and I couldn’t be happier.

Taking the leap is scary, but it doesn’t have to be. This blog is a work in progress, just like me, but I hope you find it helpful and I would love to hear from you! If you have any questions or just want to say ‘hi’ you can slide in my DMs or reach me at caseofbrooks@gmail.com.
